Biographical Sketch
Dr. Dini Miller is professor and urban pest management specialist in the Department of Entomology at Virginia Tech. Dr. Miller received her BA in geography/ecosystems from UCLA in 1991, and her MS and Ph.D. in urban entomology from the University of Florida in 1994 and 1998, respectively. Dr. Miller has been a member of the faculty of Virginia Tech’s Department of Entomology since 1999, becoming an internationally recognized authority in the fields of bed bug and cockroach biology, pest management, and pesticide resistance. She has distinguished herself with over 30 peer-reviewed publications and numerous extension publications. Dr. Miller has received several recognitions, including the 2012 Virginia Tech Alumni Award for Excellence in Extension, the 2009 Crown Leadership Award by PCT Magazine, and the 2009 ESA Eastern Branch’s Distinguished Achievement Award in Extension. Her service to ESA and other influential societies have included serving as Chair, Vice-Chair, and Secretary of ESA Section Fb, Program Co-Chair for the National Conference on Urban Entomology, member of the ESA Section Fb Program Committee, member of the ESA Strategic Planning Committee, and organizer, moderator, judge, debate mentor, and panelist at many ESA meetings and events. Dr. Miller brings a wealth of experience and a strong professional network to help lead the MUVE section forward.

Biographical Sketch
Dr. Chris Geden received his MS and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1979 and 1993, respectively. After working as a research associate at North Carolina State University and Cornell, he joined USDA’s Center for Medical, Agricultural, and Veterinary Entomology in Gainesville, Florida, where he has been a research entomologist since 1992. His research has mainly focused on IPM and behavior and pathogen relations of muscoid flies affecting livestock, poultry, and humans. Biological control of flies has been a long-standing interest, and he has investigated beetle and mite predators, hymenopteran parasitoids, and fungal and viral pathogens of flies. He also has research interests in pathogens of beneficial insects and the biology and management of structural pests in poultry houses. Dr. Geden has published 87 papers in refereed scientific journals, three book chapters, two patents, one book (as editor), and 45 articles in trade journals and extension publications. He has presented 80 papers and 28 invited seminars in the U.S. and has given 19 invited international presentations. He has been an active member of ESA since 1977, has attended most national meetings of the Society since then, and has provided service by organizing two symposia at national meetings, participating in nine other symposia, and serving as moderator (numerous times) and as student competition judge (2001, 2007-2011). He also gave the Highlights of Veterinary Entomology presentation at the 1997 meeting and served on the Editorial Boards of the Annals of the ESA (1991-1995) and the Journal of Medical Entomology (2007-2011), and as MUVE president in 2012.
