Instructions for Preparation of Abstracts

GUIDELINES: Submission of an abstract is mandatory for papers, posters, and symposia presentations and is suggested for awards presentations.

FILE FORMAT: Prepare abstract in Microsoft Word (version 5.0 or higher). Remove "track changes" prior to submission. It can be included as the second page of the Paper and Poster Submission Form, or can be emailed separately, utilizing the filename convention "firstauthorlastname abstract.doc", with a number inserted after "abstract" if more than one abstract is being submitted by the same lead author. In either event, it should be emailed to either Program Committee Co-Chair Victoria Yokoyama or Peter Follett, Pacific Branch ESA Program Chair, Victoria.Yokoyama@ARS.USDA.GOV  or Peter.Follett@ARS.USDA.GOV . 

FORMAT: The abstract should be about 250 words and not contain extensive tables or digital images. Use a 12-point serif font such as Times or Times New Roman. Abstracts for symposium papers may be up to 1,000 words. Click here for a Sample Abstract.

  1. The title must not exceed two lines, must be in bold capital letters, and must be descriptive of the topic presented. It should be centered and followed by a blank line.
  2. Name(s) of the author(s) should be centered and followed by a blank line. The address(es) of the author(s) should also be centered and followed by a blank line.
  3. Text in the body of the abstract should be right and left margin justified (aligned). A blank line should separate paragraphs. Use a 1" margin on all sides.
  4. The abstract must be clear, concise, and unambiguous and contain an accurate summary of the work. The author is responsible for all editorial details (e.g., grammar, style, spelling, etc.).
