Metamorphosis – A New Beginning

President's Welcome
On behalf of the Program and Local Arrangements Co-Chairs, I
am excited to unveil the theme and logo for the 2008 Annual Meeting of the
Entomological Society of America! Our theme Metamorphosis – A New Beginning
conveys both the excitement of dynamic change and the exhilaration of a new
journey. The six brown ovals on the wings of the stylized butterfly represent
the former six sections of our Society. The four orange and yellow ovals on the
other wings symbolize the new four sections of the ESA. The overlapping ovals
signify independence yet also signify they are an integral part of a larger
whole. The brown coloration was chosen to characterize the ESA’s rich heritage
and the orange and yellow embody our bright future.
The 2008 Annual Meeting of the ESA will be held at the new Reno-Sparks
Convention Center from November 16-19. We anticipate many ESA members may choose
to bring their families to Reno because of the spectacular recreational
opportunities that are available. The Program Committee is eager to work with
our members in the preparation of a very dynamic and innovative conference that
captures the enthusiasm of entomologists as they create novel synergies and
relationships within the new sections and networks of the ESA!
The Logo
The logo was created by Gretchen Wieshuber, a professional
graphics artist with Studio 2D located in Champaign, Illinois. Gretchen also
designed the conference logo for the 2001 Annual Meeting of the ESA held in San
Diego.
