Assistant Professor—Mosquito Ecologist
The Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory (FMEL) at University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences in Vero Beach, FL is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position (80% research and 20% extension), available July 1, 2018. Tenure will accrue in the University of Florida Entomology and Nematology Department.
We seek a faculty member with experience/expertise in mosquitoes and mosquito-borne disease agents. The incumbent will be responsible for research and extension focusing on the ecology of mosquito vectors and vector-borne pathogens with an emphasis on the landscape and/or spatial ecology of mosquitoes. Special consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in modern approaches to spatial analysis, landscape and spatial ecology, geographic information systems, evolutionary biology, vector behavior, vector genetics, ecosystem interactions, and/or the epidemiology of mosquito-borne diseases.
Candidates are expected to conduct research and extension focusing on landscape and/or spatial ecology as it pertains to mosquitoes and vector-borne disease. The candidate’s research and extension programs are expected to be relevant to Florida mosquito control issues in cooperation with Florida mosquito control programs, but international programs are also encouraged. The faculty member will seek intramural and extramural funding to support his/her program. The FMEL seeks candidates who demonstrate research interests complementary to those of the current FMEL faculty.
The faculty member will establish an extension program with educational and advisory information and will participate in activities related to instruction including undergraduate and graduate education by chairing graduate committees, serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation research, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing research results with students.
