ESA standing committees evaluate the nominations for the Society's honors as assigned below:

• Honorary Membership: ESA Committee on Honorary Membership

• Fellows: ESA Committee on Fellows

• Founders' Memorial Award: ESA Committee on the Founders’ Memorial Award

The ESA Committee on Awards selects the judging panels for the following awards, including each panel's chair unless otherwise noted. The make-up of each judging panel are also noted below. All judges serve three-year terms unless otherwise indicated.

• Distinguished Achievement Award in Extension: One judge from each Branch.

• Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching: One judge from each Branch.

• Distinguished Service to the Certification Program Award: One judge from each Branch.

• Recognition Award in Entomology: One judge from each Branch.

• Recognition Award in Insect Physiology, Biochemistry, and Toxicology: Three judges from Section B, one from Section C, and one from Section D. One of the Section B representatives serves as chair during his/her last year on the panel.

The ESA Committee on Student Affairs (SAC) appoints the judging panel, including the chair, for the following award:

• Student Activity Award: Two SAC members, one student who is not on the SAC, one regular member, and one member from industry, preferably a representative of the award sponsor. Students serve two years; the industry representative indefinitely, and the others three years.

Each Branch assigns its own judges for the following ESA award:

• John Henry Comstock Graduate Student Awards: Each branch also decides on the criteria for its Comstock judging panel.

The Certification Board appoints the judging panel for the following ESA student award:

• Student Certification Award: Three Certification Board members, one to two certified entomologists, and one (optional) representative from the award sponsor.

The chair of Section C appoints the judging panel, including the chair, for the following awards:

• Distinguished Achievement Award in Horticultural Entomology (formerly the Distinguished Achievement Award in Regulatory Entomology): Three judges from Section C.

The ESA Committee on Awards selects the judging panels for the following awards, including each panel's chair unless otherwise noted below. The make-up of each judging panel is also noted below. All judges serve three-year terms.

• Award for Excellence in Integrated Pest Management: One judge from each Branch.

• Henry & Sylvia Richardson Research Grant: Five at-large members; however, it has become traditional that the panel consists of one judge from each Branch.

• Integrated Pest Management Team Award: One judge, representing the private and public sectors, from each Branch.

• Jeffrey P. LaFage Graduate Student Research Award: One judge from each Branch.

• Larry Larson Graduate Student Award for Leadership in Applied Entomology: Five at-large judges to include a representative of the award sponsor.

• Recognition Award in Urban Entomology: One judge from each Branch.

• Thomas Say Award: Four judges from Section A, one each from Sections C and D, and one distinguished systematist, morphologist, or evolutionist who is not an ESA member (the latter of which is appointed to the chair of Section A). The panel of seven judges should represent all subdisciplines of the award.

The ESA Committee on Education and Youth selects the judging panel for the following awards, including each panel's chair. All judges serve three-year terms.

• BioQuip Undergraduate Scholarship: Six judges, five from the ESA membership at-large and one from the Fall family, owners of BioQuip Products.

• President's Prizes for Outstanding Achievement in Primary and Secondary Education: Three judges.

The chair of Section A appoints the judges for a term of three years for the following award:

• Snodgrass Memorial Research Award: Four judges from Section A.

For the following award, the chair of Section B appoints judges from that Section, as described below. The judge in his/her last year on the panel will serve as chair, as appointed by the chair of Section B.

• International Congress on Insect Neurochemistry and Neurophysiology (ICINN) Student Recognition Award in Insect Physiology, Biochemistry, Toxicology, and Molecular Biology: Four judges, two serving one-year terms and two serving two-year terms. Every year two new panelists are selected.

• Lillian & Alex Feir Graduate Student Travel Award: One judge from a department of entomology at a university of college, one from a non-entomological university department, and one from industry or government. Each judge serves a term of three years.

The chair of Section F selects the judging panel for the following award. Each judge serves a three-year term.

• Kenneth & Barbara Starks Plant Resistance to Insects Graduate Student Research Award: Four judges, including one at-large member, one woman, one plant breeder, and the current chair of Subsection Fa, the latter whom serves as chair of the judging panel.

The chairs of Section F and C select the five-member judging panel for the following award:

• Pioneer Hi-Bred International Graduate Student Fellowship: The Section F chair appoints three members, one who is a member of Section F (protection entomology) and two from Subsection Fa (Host Plant Resistance). The Section C chair appoints two members of Section Cd. The judging panel will select the winner during the summer of 2005; the recipient of this award is selected every four years. During the following four years, the judging panel will receive an annual report on the student’s academic studies and research, which is approved and signed by the student’s advisor and sent to the judging panel. Once each annual report is approved by the judging panel, the yearly stipend is sent to the student.

The ESA President selects the judges for the following award.

• Stan Beck Fellowship: Four at-large members serving three-year terms.

Ohio State University determines the judges for the following award:

• Joseph H. Camin Fellowship
