Entomologist Justin Schmidt is well known for creating the Schmidt Sting Pain Index, which rates the pain of insect stings on a scale of one to four. Schmidt has a passion for insects, and during his career he has studied bees, wasps, and ants. Schmidt has inadvertently felt the pain of almost every biting and stinging species he has encountered.
At the University of Arizona, he is a member of the Center For Insect Science and an adjunct instructor in the Department of Entomology, teaching medical entomology as well as a more general natural history class.
