Tom Perring, AVP and professor at the University of California, Riverside, has been appointed as the associate vice provost for undergraduate education on the campus. In this position, Tom serves as the faculty director of the Honors Program, the Education Abroad Program, the Washington DC Program, and the Summer Quarter. He maintains a 25% research/teaching appointment in the Department of Entomology, where his current research focuses on the IPM of invasive pests of dates and cole crops in southern California.
At its last meeting in Vancouver in November 2010, the Entomological Society of Canada awarded the Gold Medal to Charles Vincent for his lifetime contributions to the advancement of entomology.

Purdue's forensic entomology program was featured on Discovery Channel's reality television show "Dirty Jobs" at 9 p.m. Nov. 28. The episode, titled "Bug Detective," highlighted the work of graduate students who study forensic entomology as they collect and analyze insects from dead pigs to determine time of death and other information about crime scene scenarios.
