Lanham, MD; April 9, 2013 – ESA has begun accepting entries for the 2013 YouTube Your Entomology Video Contest. For the fifth year in a row, this contest gives ESA members the opportunity to showcase their talents and creativity through video. Members may submit entries in four different categories:
* Discovery (research focus)
* Instruction (teaching focus, academic audience)
* Outreach (extension focus, non-academic audience)
* Open category (anything goes, for the uber-creative entomologist)
The rules for this year's contest are:
Madison, WI; March 26, 2013 -- Mr. Timothy Anderson of Princeton High School, Princeton, N.J. and Mr. Richard W. Shevalier III of Voorhees High School, Glen Gardner, N.J. have been awarded fellowships to work with FMC scientists this summer in Ewing, N.J., one of the world’s leading specialty chemical companies. Anderson and Shevalier were selected based on demonstrated excellence in science teaching, and an experimental and innovative attitude in their approach to teaching.
Lanham, MD; March 15, 2013 -- The Cicadas (Hemiptera: Cicadoidea: Cicadidae) of North America North of Mexico, a new book published by the Entomological Society of America, offers a comprehensive review of the North American cicada fauna and provides information on synonymies, type localities, and type material.
Lanham, MD; March 12, 2013 -- Thousands of insects and a swarm of entomologists will converge on Lancaster for the 84th Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America's Eastern Branch. The meeting will also include a free public program for kids and parents called "It's a Bug's World." This event will be held on Sunday, March 17 from 10:00am-3:00pm at the Eden Resorts. Lanham, MD; March 5, 2013 -- In California, Culex mosquitoes are considered to be the principle vectors of West Nile virus (WNV), which infects birds, humans, and other mammals during the summer. In addition, these mosquitoes may also serve as overwintering reservoir hosts as the virus is passed "vertically" from female mosquito to egg, then larva, and then adult.
