Step 3: Studying for the examination

The ACE examination is designed to recognize practicing pest
management professionals who have a solid grasp of the practical aspects of
applied entomology. The major categories of competency covered by the exam
include:

life cycles, and practical control measures for important structural pests
§ Health
impacts of pests
§ Ecological
principles pertaining to pest control
§ Environmental
impacts related to pest control
§ Integrated
pest management (IPM) principles

and associations of significance to the pest control industry

and regulations affecting the industry

Sample Exams
You can take an 18-question sample exam online through this
link. This will give you a better understanding of the types of questions asked
and your overall preparedness for the exam.
- Go to the testing site
- Enter ENTSOC as the instructor.
- Choose the "ACE Practice exam" from the list of tests.
- Type in your name and enter the password entomology.
- At this point you will then be logged in to the exam. When
you have finished with the sample exam, if you click "review" at
the end, you can see your score and additional study suggestions.

Study Guides and Courses
The official ACE study guide
is available as a free PDF on this site by clicking here. Prospective ACEs are also encouraged to read the
study materials.
In
addition, ESA has partnered with Bug Off Pest Control Center in New York City to
create and offer a training course designed specifically to help applicants take
and pass the ACE Qualifying exam. The course will be led by a Board Certified
Entomologist and is appropriate for anyone who is interested in eventually
becoming an ACE.
