Position Title: Chief Apiary Inspector

The Department of Entomology at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas invites applicants for the Chief Apiary Inspector position. We seek an individual who will oversee all regulatory activities of the Texas Apiary Inspection Service programs and TAIS personnel. This includes quarantine counties for disease, exotic pests and undesirable races of Apis; if necessary; file charges for law violations; make decisions on problems that arise; Issue certificates of inspection for queen breeders; issue exportation/ importation/intra state commerce for colonies of honey bees and pollination permits. Conduct random inspection of beekeepers/queen breeders and investigate various trouble calls (swarms, mites, etc.); establish protective/restrictive quarantine(s) because of disease or deleterious exotic species; seize bees, equipment, pollen or honey, if necessary, to enforce bee laws and regulations. The incumbent in collaborations with the TAMU Apiculture program will participate in practical research projects that will assist beekeepers with management of honey bee diseases, parasites, and pathogens. Educate the public by giving talks about all aspects of beekeeping, bee removal and the laws that regulate the honey bee industry.  Attend state and national apiculture meetings as appropriate. Report to the Department Head of Entomology by providing detailed reports and maintaining an electronic database of inspection/compliance activities performed by TAIS personnel as well as fiscal management of funds received.  Supervise Assistant Chief Apiary Inspector and Apiary Inspector(s) and develop Standard Operating Procedures Manual for the program.
