
JOB DESCRIPTION:
BASF´s Agricultural Solutions Business at BASF´s facility in Research Triangle Park (RTP) is seeking an experienced Research Scientist. BASF Corporation in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina is headquarters for the BASF Crop protection NAFTA Division, and BASF Plant Science L.P.
The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary program focused on the discovery and biological characterization of novel insecticides.
Specifically the incumbent will manage the insect and plant propagation facility that focuses on the providing quality insects and plants to other research teams to both Insecticide Research groups at RTP.
The incumbent will manage a team of direct reports; manage the technical aspects of the insectary and plant-growing facilities; understand the relationship between customers and his/her team; understand and anticipate customer needs; align insectary goals to meet customer needs; work with customer to develop specifications and measures of quality; educate customers about the capabilities and constraints of the rearing program; assist customers using the product; set standards for customer interactions. Furthermore, the incumbent is able to spot problems quickly and direct the effort to solve them; anticipate and prepare for change; display effective leadership and stabilize the program during non-routine change; establishe standards for QC and production efficiency; establishe a means to regularly monitor these standards; develop correlations between quality and program variables; train employees in QC; report to management about quality issues; understand program variables and impact on colonies.

REQUIREMENTS: - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Required:
• PhD with 8 years or MS degree with 10 years of relevant experience in the field of agriculture, horticulture, entomology or crop protection.
• Proven track-record of working in a multi-species rearing facility, including raising artificial-diet insects and phytophagous insects.
• Understanding processes for continuous plantings of crops, particularly those used in a research greenhouse.
• Experience managing direct reports.
• Excellent interpersonal, management and organizational skills.
• Self-starter, problem solver and confident communicator with strong leadership and team skills.
• Must have solid written and verbal and presentation skills.
• Must be able to effectively use MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred:
• PhD with 10 years or MS degree with 13 years of relevant experience in the field of agriculture, horticulture, entomology or crop protection.
• Deep knowledge of insects and their physiology, behavior, nutrition, ecology, genetics and pathology (microbiology).
• Proven experience handling problems such as disease outbreaks, abnormal environmental conditions and nutritional deficiencies.
