My research has been in the field of Ecology, specifically on plant-insect interactions and tri-trophic interactions. Over the years, as a PI or Co-PI, I have been awarded competitive research grants totalling $7,102,874 from agencies usch as the USDA ARS and APHIS, the National Science Foundation (NSF); divisions of International Programs and Ecology, and an Interagency and an Education Research Initiative comprised of NSF, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the Office of Educational Research. I am a Fellow of the Entomological Society of America, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and a Ford Foundation Fellow. Finally, I have 134 refereed papers (in journals such as Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Ecology, Journal of Chemical Ecology, Annual Review of Ecology, Evolution and Systematics, Annual Review of Entomology, Oecologia, American Naturalist, Journal of Insect Behaviour, Phytopathology, Journal of Educational Research, and many others. I have also written or edited 12 books and 19 book chapters.
