I have successfully defended my Ph.D. last December at the Department of Entomology, NC State University and I will officially graduate in Spring 2013. My specific field is Urban Entomology. The subject of my PhD work was the German cockroach, one of the major indoor pests worldwide. My PhD research was focusing on the social facilitation of reproduction in the German cockroach investigating why German cockroach females reproduce faster when in groups, whereas isolation slows down reproduction. I also investigated the sensory modalities and pathways that mediate this physiological change.
I have acquired a wide range of transferable skills through experience in academia and industry – interpersonal, problem solving, organization and laboratory. I believe that these equip me for a future in a business environment. As a researcher, I have developed a flexible nature which allows me to innovate and to work independently. My aim is to work in a high profile, evolving, team-based environment that enables personal development coupled with the opportunity for advancement.
