This letter is to express my interest in the position. I am excited about the opportunity to apply for this position. I have more than 4 years of experience in cellular electrophysiology (epithelial and intracellular microelectrode). Currently I am a Research fellow in the laboratory of Dr. David F Moffett at Washington State University.
As a postdoctoral fellow at WSU, I have been engaged in studying how epithelia move ions across and within themselves and the cellular mechanisms that enable the pH variations across the gut. How these processes are adapted to meet the environmental challenges is the overall interest of this study. Mainly we study the transepithelial voltage of the mosquito midgut in combination with pharmacology. We have also been using molecular techniques, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy in our project. A part of the findings stemming from this research has already been published in JEB and JIP. One more is under review. In addition to the lab work, I have been supervising undergraduate research of few students here at Pullman.
For my doctoral thesis I worked on the toxicology of pyrethroid insecticides in mosquitoes that transmit dengue and yellow fever.I have been working on the mosquitoes for the past 14 years. I have experience working with Aedes, Anopheles and Culex mosquitoes. For my doctoral thesis I worked on the toxicology of pyrethroid insecticides in mosquitoes that transmit dengue and yellow fever. As a part of the program I have done field collections, studied few aspects of its ecology, bioassays, biochemical and molecular work. I know their biology and have done identification based the keys features.
I have 9 publications to my credit so far. My search is for a research position that can expand my technical abilities and widen my scientific background. I am willing to learn and this opportunity seems to be unique. A detailed CV is attached herewith for your kind perusal.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely
Dr.Urmila Jagadeeshwaran
