Dear Employer,
I write this to express my interest and enthusiasm to resume my career in a suitable capacity. I earned my PhD in Entomology from the University of Georgia in August 2011, taking a break from a full-time job. I was employed as Assistant Professor (Entomology) at Kerala Agricultural University (KAU), India where I gained good experience in research, extension and teaching. As I search for a full-time position, I am handling two part-time work assignments, one in the Center for Urban Agriculture at the University of Georgia Griffin campus, and the second at the USDA Forest Service Plant Quarantine Lab at Athens, Georgia.
My education has focused on Agricultural Entomology with emphasis on plant-insect interactions, and I have good experience working with field and plantation crop pests in South India, which is a tropical region. I have also worked with field and landscape pests in the US. For my PhD research, I screened ericaceous ornamental plants for resistance to lace bugs and identified some of the possible mechanisms of resistance in plants against lace bugs.
I am interested in a career that gives me opportunities to conduct independent research, and also to educate students. I enjoy working with multi-disciplinary teams and my communication skills have been of immense help to keep my team working together to achieve our results. My Resume and CV give a brief description of my education and experiences, but I look forward to meeting interested employers to talk further about my ideas and interests.
I thank you for your time and consideration, and hope to work together soon.
Sincerely,
Shakunthala Nair
