Entomology and Fly-fishing

More than 45 million people in the US enjoy fishing, and fly-fishing is the most rapidly growing subset of this enormously popular sport. Ever since the publication of the Compleat Angler in 1656, Entomology has played a central role in this great American pastime. Amateur entomologists have fueled the growth of this sport with support from professionals in the areas of systematics, aquatic biology/ecology, biological conservation, and biodiversity. Fly-Fishers come from all walks of life including students, professors, consultants, researchers, and government employees. Of special significance is that the Fly-Fishing Network will encourage those outside of ESA (who are not traditional entomologists) but who actively contribute to Entomology and Fly-Fishing, to participate in the network. As noted above, amateur Entomologists have fueled the growth of the sport and it is important that these individuals contribute to this network.
