Section D: Medical and Veterinary Entomology

Subjects covered by Section D include the study of arthropods that adversely affect the health and well-being of humans, domestic vertebrate animals, and wildlife. Many of these insects are ectoparasites, some transmit disease-causing agents, and others cause injury and annoyance. Section study encompasses the taxonomy, systematics, developmental biology, ecology, behavior, and control of arthropods of medical-veterinary importance. Relevant areas include medical, public health, veterinary, and forensic aspects of entomology and arachnology, epidemiology of arthropod-borne disease agents, management and control of these arthropods and the disease agents they transmit, and arthropod-vector relationships to vertebrate animal diseases. Also included are the social, cultural, historical, and economic impacts of arthropods that adversely affect vertebrate animals.
