A top, 45-year-old, environmental and consumer safety contract, research, and regulatory services company for the crop protection, pharmaceutical, industrial chemical, and consumer product industries is looking for a Bee Husbandry Scientist to take on the role of Study Director to conduct honeybee and pollinator field studies.
The Study Director will develop studies to assess the impact of various chemicals, such as insecticides, on bees, brood development, and overall hive health. The successful candidate must be able to understand and explain biological processes related to hive heath, based on observations and verified scientific data. The ideal candidate will have extensive field experience working with bees and the capability to work long hours during study field days.
Primary duties include:
• Establish and Manage large numbers of bee hives (husbandry)
• Leading and managing a team of technicians and biologists
• Assure proper conduct of required studies
• Generation and validation of scientific data
• Project budget management
• Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner
• Preparing technical/scientific reports including complex statistical analyses
The ideal candidate will be trained in scientific protocol writing, Good Laboratory Practices, and scientific report writing.
Other ideal attributes include; the ability to integrate observations (visual and written) into the evaluation process. College math [mathematical reasoning, memorizing]. Ability to work at a fast pace, prioritize work assignments, and handle stress [high productivity].
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Wildlife Science/Ecotoxicology and Masters in Entomology or Ecotoxicology. 2-4 years of relevant field experience is preferred. In lieu of a Masters, 6-8 years of relevant experience in a field setting is acceptable. Knowledge of operating farm machinery, understanding agronomy, and agronomic practices will be a plus.
