Research Associate Position
Two research associate positions are available immediately at University of Florida Tropical Research and Education Center UF TREC. Individuals with a graduate degree in Acarology or Entomology or at least four years of experience in mite and/or insect rearing will be considered. The successful applicants will support research activities aiming to develop treatments against quarantine pests of imminent concern to the U.S. and its territories. Specific duties include 1) Establishing and rearing colonies of arthropods for use in studies designed to exclude, manage or prepare for new exotic pests, 2) Assist in methods development for treatments to control arthropod pests of concern to USDA APHIS. The initial focus will be on Brevipalpus mites. Future work could include rearing fruit flies and other pests of concern.
The successful applicants will work with Principal Investigators from UF TREC and USDA-APHIS-PPQ- S&T-CPHST in the establishment and maintenance of arthropod colonies; experiment coordination and execution; data collection and management. The successful applicants will work both at UF TREC in Homestead, FL, and at the USDA Subtropical Horticulture Research Station in Miami, FL.
The applicant must have competency in English and a demonstrated ability to write reports. A demonstrated record of publishing scientific manuscripts is desired.
These are 1.5-year positions with reappointment being contingent on performance and availability of funds. Salary range is 35,000- 50,000/year plus benefits depending on experience.
