Dear ESA Members,
On behalf of the ESA Governing Board, I am pleased to report that the proposed
ESA Bylaws Revision has been approved by the membership, with 88% of voting
members in favor of the changes.
This decision by the membership marks a landmark milestone in the history of our
Society and will be the start of another very productive and influential era in
the development of the ESA. In the next weeks and months, we will be working on
the many organizational details and administrative prework supporting a smooth
transition, with implementation to begin at the close of the Annual Business
Meeting in San Diego (December 12) later this year. We ask for your patience and
cooperation during this process and promise to communicate progress on a regular
basis.
Although a clear majority of voting members elected to support the proposed
revision, we recognize that it was not unanimous. To the members that voted to
not support the changes, we specifically ask you for an opportunity over the
next year to demonstrate how the changes will visibly strengthen ESA and we
certainly welcome your continued constructive engagement along this next phase
of the journey.
Congratulations on taking this big step for your Society and thank you for your
membership in the ESA!
Sincerely,
Scott H. Hutchins, Ph.D., BCE
President, Entomological Society of America
