Get Involved!

The ESA Governing Board has approved the disbursement of $30,000 in awards this year to support our younger members and encourage their active involvement in the Society. President Hutchins appointed a committee to develop a plan for this money. At the August 2007 Governing Board meeting, Committee Chair John Heraty presented the plan which was approved by the ESA Governing Board.

Overview

With direction from the ESA Governing Board, the committee determined that the award would be reserved for students and young professionals (see below for eligibility) who have given back to the Society, either by their service, participation, or attendance. As this is the first year of the award, simplicity was a guiding principle. Expansion of the program is possible in the future.

Eligibility

The program will be open to students (undergrad or graduate), Post-doctoral associates and researchers, Assistant professors within the first three years of their position, and others (as long as it is three years or less since graduating from a degree program or ended a post-doctoral position). You must attend the ESA Annual Meeting in Reno to qualify.

Activities that will be recognized

Each applicant will fill out a form and indicate levels of participation and attendance. These include:

Application

At the conclusion of the ESA Annual Meeting you will be able to submit your application online. The application will remain online about four to six weeks after the meeting ends.

The awards will be no less than $25/applicant. High achievers will receive a higher amount, depending on the total pool of applicants.
