ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF VETERINARY ENTOMOLOGY
Kansas State University Faculty Position Focused on Veterinary Entomology
Department of Entomology in Kansas State University is hiring a 12-month tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level (70% Research, 20% Extension, and 10% Teaching). The Kansas State University is a land-grant University, encompassing wide range of disciplines. The Department of Entomology maintains an excellent research environment with state-of-the-art facilities, including a BSL2 Veterinary Entomology laboratory and shared insectary. The Department also offers a competitive startup package. This Veterinary Entomologist position in the Department of Entomology aligns with our departmental goals (https://entomology.k-state.edu ) as well as the K-State 2025 visionary plan, Global Food Systems (https://www.k- state.edu/research/global-food) and OneHealth initiatives. We envision this position providing a valuable connection to the National Bio and Agro-defense Facility (NBAF), Biosecurity Research Institute (BRI), and the Arthropod-Borne Animal Diseases Research Unit (ABADRU), which is part of the USDA Center for Grain and Animal Health Research (CGAHR) in Manhattan, KS.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a program combining research and extension in Veterinary Entomology with emphasis on management of arthropod parasites and vectors affecting livestock. Strong basic and applied research components are expected to procure extramural support, publish research results in peer-reviewed journals and extension publications, and collaborate with preexisting research and extension programs in the Department, University, and USDA-Arthropod- Borne Animal Diseases Research Unit. Teaching duties will include offering an undergraduate course in Animal Health Entomology every year, developing a graduate course (800-level) in an area of interest to the incumbent every other year, supervising graduate students and participating in institutional education and outreach activities.
