Entomologist, Tephritid Fruit Fly Research and Methods Development-

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry is seeking a full-time Entomologist to conduct research and methods development activities to support statewide Tephritid fruit fly detection, control, and eradication programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to design and execute investigations into the population, migration, life history, host relations, detection, control and eradication factors regarding exotic fruit fly species in Florida. She/he will make recommendations to various statewide fruit fly programs.
QUALIFICATIONS: MS or PhD in Entomology, Biology or related field, supported by experience with insect pest detection and control. Prior experience with Tephritid fruit flies is preferred. Outstanding written and oral communication skills are required. The candidate should have sound planning, organization, problem solving and coordination skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with numerous state and federal agencies and universities.
LOCATION: Palmetto and Sarasota, Florida. The successful candidate will have a dedicated office space in Palmetto as well as lab and office space in the new (2018) USDA-APHIS Sterile Insect Release Facility in nearby Sarasota.
