Entomologist/Development Scientist IV
ALK Source Materials, Inc., a leading manufacturer of biological source materials for allergy vaccine production, is recruiting for our open Entomologist position. A professional Entomologist is needed to support process development at our Post Falls, Idaho location.
ALK Source materials, Inc. is part of ALK-Abello, a global allergy company headquartered in Denmark. The focus of the Development department is to propose and execute scientific studies, to improve biological processes and to support failure investigation. Development Scientists participate in global projects including some collaboration with academia.
The Entomologist leverages field research experience and advanced entomological knowledge to optimize growth of house dust mites in culture. The Entomologist also provides scientific support to insect venom collection, guidance on control of arthropod pests within the facility and in outdoor settings (including plant/ insect interactions), and guidance on use of pesticides. The Entomologist works closely with production and compliance staff to evaluate and improve processes and meet regulatory requirements. The Entomologist assists with pilot plant activities and performs arthropod identification, culture and microscopy as necessary, but does not routinely perform analytical laboratory methods.
The successful candidate will have a post-baccalaureate degree in Entomology, and should show a track record of leadership in in entomology research and/or industry experience for a minimum of 5 years. Experience in a multinational/ multicultural environment is preferred. Candidates must be team-oriented to work across employee levels, departments, and sites. Candidates must have a strong understanding of common analytical methods, statistics and study design, as well as the ability to interpret data and draw conclusions with little supervisory oversight. The successful candidate will have strong problem solving skills and good communication skills (both oral and written).
All positions at ASM require the ability to comfortably work around deceased stinging insects, allergenic antigens, hazardous chemicals and solvents, and laboratory reagents.
