Closing Plenary Speaker - Wednesday, November 18, 2015

ESA is pleased to announce the 2015 Closing Plenary speaker, Jorge Cham, creative mind behind PhD Comics.

Jorge Cham is a Chinese Panamanian cartoonist and roboticist best known for his popular newspaper and web comic strip Piled Higher and Deeper (PhD Comics). Cham lives in the United States, where he started drawing PhD Comics as a graduate student at Stanford University. The strip has appeared or been featured in the journal Nature, Science Magazine, the Chronicle of Higher Education, IEEE Potentials magazine, Math Horizons magazine, Stanford Magazine and Canada's The Peer Review magazine among others, and has been linked to by USA Today's, The NY Times and The Washington Post's websites.

Dr. Cham received his Bachelor's degree from Georgia Tech in 1997 and earned a PhD in mechanical engineering from Stanford. He subsequently worked at Caltech as an instructor and as a researcher on neural prosthetics.

ESA will also feature a screening of the newly-released “PHD Movie 2,” the independently produced sequel to the popular "PHD Movie," based on PHD Comics.  View more information about movie night with Jorge Cham.
