Extension Entomologist, University of Kentucky, Department of Entomology
Position: Assistant Extension Professor of Entomology, Pest Management, twelve-month, tenure-track appointment, extension (75%), research (20%), service (5%)
Description: The Department of Entomology at the University of Kentucky is seeking a broadly trained entomologist who will address integrated management of arthropods in one or more of the following areas: urban landscapes, nursery crops, public health, households or other structures, or livestock production. This position is located in the Entomology Department on the University of Kentucky Campus, Lexington, KY. Areas of extension and research emphasis could include development and implementation of IPM tactics, pest monitoring networks, management of invasive species, pollinator protection, management of arthropod vectors of disease, or other areas. As part of a team of Extension Entomologists, this individual will develop and implement educational/outreach programs to support county-based extension personnel and other stakeholder groups, conduct problem-solving research to provide evidence-based insect management recommendations to stakeholders and cooperate in multi-disciplinary and/or inter-institutional teams. The individual is expected to develop an applied research program that complements and enhances their extension program. Further, the individual is expected to develop and maintain communication with county agents and participate in mentoring of graduate students and the graduate education program in the Department and College, and actively pursue external funding opportunities. Publication in peer-reviewed journals and extension publications is also expected.
Qualifications: The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in Entomology or related discipline with demonstrated experience in applied ecology and integrated pest management; excellent oral and written communication skills; use of common computer technologies and innovative use of social media; and experience with extension and outreach. Post-doctoral training, experience as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, and expertise in one or more of these commodity areas are desirable, but not essential.
