Michelle Smith, MUVE Section Representative

Michelle has over 20 years of R&D and business experience in pest management, technology transfer, and professional communications. She joined Dow AgroSciences as a Technical Service and Development specialist in Anaheim, California, and has held several technical specialist, technology transfer, and R&D management roles. She is a certified Continuous Improvement Leader and has served as communication and strategy leader for Dow AgroSciences R&D as well as numerous special committees and assignments. Michelle received a B.A. degree from Hollins University and a Master's degree in entomology from Virginia Tech. Michelle has served the Entomological Society of America (ESA) in a number of capacities including the Education and Youth Committee, NCB Honorary Awards Committee, the Stan Beck Fellowship, and she also has been the co-organizer of numerous Symposia at the ESA annual meeting (2007, 2010, selected for Program Symposium for 2013). Presently, she is completing her term as elected Treasurer for the Medical, Urban and Veterinary Entomology (MUVE) Section of the ESA where she has been very active on the MUVE Governing Council. In addition to the ESA, Michelle’s passion for youth education in science was evident through her work with the Entomological Foundation, where she previously served as Secretary. She also serves as a Dow AgroSciences Science Ambassador for science outreach programs directed to children and is a leader of the Women’s Innovation Network within the company. Michelle has been an advocate and invited speaker for encouragement of women in the field of agriculture and pest management.
