Postdoc/Ph.D. Assistantship. The Urban Entomology lab at Department of Entomology, Rutgers University has an opening from January 2018 for a Postdoctoral Research Associate or a Ph.D. assistantship. For postdoc, primary responsibility is to conduct applied research in urban pest management. Current projects include bed bug and cockroach management research in apartment buildings. The secondary responsibility is to design, execute, and summarize bioassays for industry partners. The candidate is expected to assist in grant preparation, supervise undergraduate and graduate students, present research findings in professional meetings, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. Continuous employment will depend on funding and performance. The candidate must to have strong publication records, good understanding of experimental design and statistical analysis skills, proficiency in SAS or SPSS programing, and dedication in urban pest management research. There will be frequent in-state travel to apartment buildings. The candidate needs to be able to communicate with residents and building staff effectively and work for long hours when needed in apartment buildings.


For the Ph.D. assistantship position, the primary goal of the research project is to conduct laboratory and field studies on bed bug behavior, ecology, and IPM. The assistantship will cover stipend, tuition, and medical insurance. The candidate will have opportunity to interact with companies, building management staff, and residents. Requirements for the applicant include: master degree in Entomology or Biology, excellent written and verbal communication skills, good statistical knowledge. The candidate will need to visit apartment buildings to assist with the grant projects and conduct research as part of the dissertation research.
