Ph.D. Assistantship in Vegetable IPM

A Ph.D. assistantship is available in the Vegetable Entomology program at the University of Florida’s Gulf Coast Research and Education Center (GCREC) near Tampa. GCREC is a fully equipped multidisciplinary agricultural research facility and 400-acre research farm located 150 miles south of the university’s main campus in Gainesville. The Vegetable Entomology program at GCREC works closely with growers, Extension agents, industry professionals and other researchers to address pest management problems facing Florida agriculture. The project focuses on management of thrips in pepper (Capsicum annuum) and other crops in south Florida, and addresses aspects of species composition, population dynamics, insecticide resistance management and conservation biological control. A combination of field, greenhouse and laboratory research will be required. A full assistantship and tuition waiver are available with a preferred start date of spring 2021.
