Postdoctoral Research Associate for Strawberry IPM in Florida

SUMMARY OF POSITION ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is located at the Gulf Coast Research and Education Center (GCREC) in Wimauma, Hillsborough County, Florida. The Lahiri lab is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the ecology and biology of key arthropod pests in strawberries and other small fruit crops and vegetables. Key pests include multiple species of thrips, mites, and root weevils. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening the biological control tools available to small fruit crop growers. This position involves close collaboration with growers, industry partners and Extension agents. The incumbent will conduct on-farm, greenhouse, and laboratory-based research, publish findings in peer reviewed journals, assist in grant writing, and provide support to graduate students and interns in the program. Funding is available for one year with scope for extension for three more years based on performance and funding availability. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE. Applicants must have received a Ph.D. in Entomology or closely related field with experience in insect and mite rearing, field work, and publication in peer reviewed scientific journals. Previous experience in grantsmanship is not required but preferred. Salary: Commensurate with educational qualification and experience.
