Call for Nominations for the 2016 Wigglesworth Memorial Lecture and Medal Award
Annapolis, MD; April 15, 2014 -- The Royal Entomological Society, on behalf of the Wigglesworth Fund, is pleased to announce that the period for submitting nominations for the 2016 Wigglesworth Memorial Lecture and Medal Award is now open and will remain open until August 31, 2014.
NOMINATIONS FOR THE WIGGLESWORTH LECTURE ARE NOW CLOSED.
The awardee will give the lecture and receive the award at the 25th International Congress of Entomology in Orlando, Florida, USA, September 25-30, 2016.
Nominators’ attention is drawn to the following statement from the Fund’s terms of reference:
“The Award is made in recognition of the great contribution of Sir Vincent Wigglesworth to Insect Biology and the example that he set in the performance of his work. Nominees shall be persons who will be regarded by the Royal Entomological Society’s Trustees as having made a significant and eminent contribution to Entomological Research. The nominee’s contribution will be work of an outstanding nature that best reflects Sir Vincent Wigglesworth’s standards of personal involvement in all aspects of research.”
Nominators should submit a comprehensive CV of their nominee, which should include a list of publications and a formal statement by the nominator indicating the importance and relevance of the nominee’s work and how that work adheres to the principles outlined in the above statement.
Additional letters of support for a particular nominee may be attached and, indeed, are encouraged. The person selected as the 2016 Lecturer will receieve funding to attend ICE 2016 in Orlando, Florida to give the lecture and receive the medal, met from the Fund.
