Report From the February 2018 ESA Governing Board Meeting
March 7, 2018
The ESA Governing Board meets four times per year (twice by conference call and twice in person) to discuss strategic initiatives important to the Society, oversee the work of staff and volunteer groups, and advance new ideas to benefit the organization. Beginning with this edition, a brief summary of activities will be published after each Governing Board meeting to ensure that members are up to date on board activities and decisions.
The Governing Board met via conference call on February 15. During the call, the board reviewed progress updates on ESA's 2018 strategic initiatives, the 2018 Joint Annual Meeting, the ESA Fellows Task Force studying the Fellows selection process, and the 2017 unaudited financial report. (ESA's annual audit will be completed prior to the next board meeting.) The board reviewed progress updates from the ESA Certification Corporation and the Entomological Foundation. The board also approved recommendations from the Awards and Honors Committee to streamline and simplify several awards processes; approved funding to support activities related to the 2018 March for Science; approved funding for an Annual Meeting workshop on inclusive leadership development; and approved funding for research and benchmarking to develop a new compensation plan for headquarters staff.
