Research Ecologist - Quantitative
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Stored Product Insect and Engineering Research Unit in Manhattan, Kansas seeks a Research Ecologist - Quantitative ($77,488 to $119,787, plus benefits, hiring at GS12/13 level with promotion potential to the GS15). The research assignment is part of a multidisciplinary team conducting fundamental and applied research on new approaches to integrated management of stored-product insect pests to solve national and international problems related to grain storage and processing industries. Research responsibilities can include applying quantitative ecology tools to address fundamental/applied questions about stored-product insect population dynamics, spatial patterns, or community structure within landscapes where durable commodities are stored and processed; determining the impact of management tactics and climate change on pest communities and the spread of invasive species; providing information and tools such as expert systems that can be used to guide pest management; developing and adapting methods from quantitative mathematical modeling, statistical methodologies, molecular population genetics, landscape ecology, or landscape genetics to address important research questions; and developing or adapting methods from population or agent based modeling, risk assessment, or decision support systems to address important research questions.
