SEB President's Annual Meeting Update

Greetings Southeastern Branch Members and all ESA Members,

This is an update about the program of the 87th Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Branch of the Entomological Society of America, which will be held at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center Hotel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The meeting will start on Sunday, March 3rd and end with a mixer and LSU baseball game the evening of Tuesday March 5th.  On Sunday the Executive Committee meeting starts at 9:00 AM, with several other committee meetings during the day, and the preliminary rounds of the Linnaean Games from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Several regional project meetings also will be held in conjunction with the SEB annual meeting including the S-1055 “Biology, impact, and management of soybean insect pests in soybean production systems” on March 2-3, the SERA-003 Southern Regional IPM Information Exchange Group on Sunday, March 3rd starting at 8:00 AM, and the SDC-351 BioControl regional group meeting on Sunday from 1:00-5:00 PM.  We have a full day of student papers and posters on Monday, March 4th ending with the final rounds of the Linnaean games.  A mixer/reception crawfish boil will be held on the pool deck at the Hilton that evening.  There also is a full day of symposium and regular papers and posters on Tuesday, March 5th with the final business meeting ending at 5:00 PM.  We have a mixer scheduled for 5:30 PM at LA House near the LSU baseball stadium.  Transportation between Hilton and LA House will be provided.  The LSU baseball game begins at 6:30 PM.  Those not interested in the baseball game may stay at the mixer.

The Local Arrangement Committee is comprised of SEB-ESA members from Louisiana and is chaired by Michael Stout (LSU).  The committee members have been working tirelessly to accommodate our meeting needs while providing us with an enjoyable and memorable experience.  Mike tells me that there is not a shuttle service from the New Orleans airport to Baton Rouge.  Car rentals are available at the New Orleans airport and a taxi to Baton Rouge will cost about $100.  The Hilton hotel does have a shuttle service to the Baton Rouge airport that runs about every 30 minutes.

Ted Cottrell (USDA-ARS) and Greg Hodges (Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services) are co-Chairs of our Program Committee and are putting together an outstanding program.  Attached to this update is a summary of program.  The detailed program will be posted on our Branch website soon.  You can find information on the Branch meeting registration, hotel reservation, transportation, list of committee members, and other important meeting information at our Branch website at:

I look forward to seeing you at the 2013 SEB-ESA meeting in Baton Rouge!

Best Regards,

G. David Buntin

SEB-ESA President
