Senior Protein Biochemist

AgBiome is a biotechnology company which uses new knowledge of the plant-associated microbiome to create innovative products for agriculture and life sciences. We have about 100 employees and occupy a state-of-the-art facility (office, labs, greenhouse) in Research Triangle Park in Durham, NC.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Protein Characterization Scientist to join the Insect Control Trait (ICT) group in RTP, NC. The ICT group is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to enable and advance pipeline projects across diverse insect targets. As an integral member of the group, the successful candidate will make significant contributions to characterizing insect control protein leads. The candidate will be involved in the discovery, design, purification, characterization and improvement of selected trait leads.

Position Responsibilities

  • Improves the technology platform, develops new technologies and approaches in support of protein discovery,  Mode-of-Action and characterization studies for trait development.

  • Develop and improve protein expression and production methods for our high throughput screening pipelines.

  • Serves as the technical lead responsible for collaborating closely with internal and external technical teams in the area of protein discovery, characterization and improvement.

  • Develops technical plans and sets clear objectives for the Biochemistry team in the ICT projects.

  • Identifies new technology opportunities to improve the protein biochemistry platform.

  • Establishes high scientific standards and operating procedures for the biochemistry team.



  • Candidates must have a Ph.D degree or M.Sc. in biochemistry, chemistry or a related field and 10+ years’ experience in protein discovery, production and characterization.

  • Familiarity with various protein isolation, purification, analytical technologies as well as  protein expression systems. Examples of technologies include but are not limited to prokaryotic and eukaryotic protein expression and tagging systems, immunodetection, chromatography (LCMS, FPLC, HPLC, etc.) and crystallography.

  • Broad experience in protein biochemistry in an industrial setting in the area of insect control. Industry experience is highly desired but not required.

  • Outstanding work ethic and demonstrated scientific excellence.

  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.
