AgBiome is a biotechnology company that uses new knowledge of the plant-associated microbiome to create innovative products for agriculture and life sciences. We have around 100 employees and occupy a state-of-the-art facility (office, labs, greenhouse) in Research Triangle Park in Durham, NC.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Protein Characterization Scientist to join the Insect Control Trait (ICT) group in RTP, NC. The ICT group is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to enable and advance pipeline projects across diverse insect targets. As an integral member of the group, the successful candidate will make significant contributions to characterizing insect control protein leads. The candidate will be involved in the discovery, design, purification, characterization and improvement of selected trait leads.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead improvements in the technology platform, including development of new technologies and approaches in support of protein discovery,  Mode-of-Action and characterization studies for trait development.

  • Develop and improve protein expression and production methods for our high throughput screening pipelines.

  • Design and conduct assays for high throughput screening and protein characterization. 

  • Serves as the technical lead responsible for collaborating closely with internal and external technical teams in the area of protein discovery, characterization and improvement.

  • Develops technical plans and sets clear objectives for the Biochemistry team in the ICT projects.

  • Establishes high scientific standards and operating procedures for the biochemistry team.



  • Candidates must have a Ph.D degree or M.Sc. in biochemistry, chemistry or a related field and 10+ years experience in protein discovery, production and characterization

  • Familiarity with various protein isolation, purification, analytical technologies as well as protein expression systems. Examples of technologies include but are not limited to prokaryotic and eukaryotic protein expression and tagging systems, immunodetection, chromatography (LCMS, FPLC, HPLC, etc.) and crystallography.

  • Broad and in depth experience in protein biochemistry, preferably in the area of insect control

  • Industry experience is highly desirable but not required

  • Outstanding work ethic and demonstrated scientific excellence

  • Must be able to legally work in the United States
