South Western Branch - John Henry Comstock Award
This award is given to one graduate student from each ESA branch to promote interest in entomology at the graduate level and to stimulate interest in attending the fall/winter ESA Annual Meeting. Each Award consists of an all-expenses-paid trip to the meeting, a $100 cash prize, and a certificate. Expenses paid include reimbursed airfare, free hotel arrangements, free meeting registration, and a per diem allowance. These annual awards are presented during the ESA Annual Meeting but SWB recipients are also recognized at the Branch meeting.
Applicants must be enrolled as a graduate student at least half-time and in graduate school at the time of (or have completed the degree within the last 12 months preceding) the presentation of the Award. Students must be pursuing a course leading to a graduate degree. Application for Society membership (student or active) must have been made prior to January 1 of the year the Award is made. An active member returning for graduate study is not eligible. Nomination packages should include:
1. Statement of nominee’s interests and goals in entomology (strictly limited to
2 pages double spaced)
2. Description of significant awards and achievements (strictly limited to 2
pages) double spaced
3. Vitae with:
a. Awards and achievements;
b. Publications (limited to published or in-press submissions);
c. Other citable professional activities;
d. List of oral and poster presentations at professional meetings.
4. Nomination letter and two additional letters of support from professional
references all inclusive in one document [PDF].
5. Photograph of the nominee (as a digital image file [JPG]).
Nomination packages must be submitted to the Southwestern Branch Awards and Honors Committee Chair (Scott.Armstrong@ars.usda.gov) by January 31, preceding the Annual Meeting of the Southwestern Branch. Each Branch must notify ESA Headquarters of its Comstock winner by AUGUST 15, of the same year so that it will be available for the annual ESA meeting.
