    Southwestern Branch Distinguished Achievement Award in Extension

    This award recognizes a Southwestern Branch member who has made outstanding contributions to extension entomology.  The winner of this award will be recognized at the 2018 Southwestern Branch Annual Meeting and will be submitted to the ESA Distinguished Achievement Award in Extension as the branch nomination for 2018.

    Nomination Eligibility
    The nominee must be a current Southwestern Branch member, and must have demonstrated excellent performance through program creativity, impact, achievement, and delivery.

    Nomination Requirements -
    Nomination packages for this award must include:

    1. CV-Related Items - Nominators must provide a CV which includes the below sections. For a full listing of what should be included in each of the sections click here.
    • Section 1 - Background Information
    • Section 4 - Extension/ Outreach
    • Section 5 - Service

    2. Other Items-

    • Letter of nomination that provides a brief explanation of how the individual excelled in performing his/her duties, including innovations in training, programs, and methods
    • Up to three letters of endorsement from professional colleagues and clientele
    • Photograph of the nominee (as a digital image file [JPG]).

    Evaluation Criteria -
    Nominees/candidates will be judged using the following criteria for a total of 100 points:

    1. Professional Background (60 points total)
      1. Leadership and participation in professional activities (10)
      2. Honors, awards, achievements, and recognition (7)
      3. Special assignments and committee activities (10)
      4. Service outside of extension, including community activities (7)
      5. Grantsmanship (8)
      6. Recommendation of colleagues, peer groups, etc. (8)
      7. Publications (10)
    2. Program Management (40 points total)
      1. Creativity and innovation of program's concept (8)
      2. Development, educational strategy (8)
      3. Implementation, including publications (8)
      4. Diversity of program's delivery (8)
      5. Evidence of program's impact (8)

    ESA Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching

    This award honors the role of entomological education as a basis for the entire discipline by recognizing a Southwestern Branch member who is deems to the most outstanding educator of the year.  The winner of this award will be recognized at the 2018 Southwestern Branch Annual Meeting and will be submitted to the ESA Distinguished Achievement Award in Teaching as the branch nomination for 2018.

    Nomination Eligibility
    The nominee must be a current Southwestern Branch member, teach at the community college or university level, and must have excelled through innovations in developing new courses, programs, and teaching methods.

    • Classroom Instructions (30 points total)
      • Amount/number of courses and/or students (10)
      • Effectiveness, innovation, and effort of methods (10)

      • Development of new courses or curricula (4)
      • Grants received for teaching (2)
      • Publications related to teaching (2)
      • Talks related to teaching (2)

      • Advising students and student organizations (20)
      • Evaluation by students and peers (8)
    • Outreach and Other Activities (30 points total)
      • Presentations or activities for K-12 and/or general public (10)
      • Workshops or short courses for professional audience (10)
      • Other professional activities, such as research, extension, consulting, or service (10)

    ESA Award for Excellence in Integrated Pest Management

    This award recognizes a Southwestern Branch member who has made outstanding contributions in Integrated Pest Management.  The winner of this award will be recognized at the 2018 Southwestern Branch Annual Meeting and will be submitted to the ESA Award for Excellence in Integrated Pest Management as the branch nomination for 2018.

    Nomination Eligibility -
    A nominee must be a SWB ESA member who has made outstanding contributions to IPM. Special consideration shall be given to independence of thought and originality. A recipient of a widely recognized scientific award will not be eligible for this award unless the accomplishment cited as the basis for nomination represents new work. Previous recipients of this award are not eligible for future nominations. Only nominations from SWB members are accepted for the Award for Excellence in IPM. The winner of the SWB award will be passed onto ESA to compete against other branch winners.

    Nomination packages for this award must include:

    1. CV-Related Items - Nominators must provide a CV which includes the below sections. For a full listing of what should be included in each of the sections click here.
      • Section 1 - Background Information
      • Section 2 - Research
      • Section 3 - Teaching
      • Section 5 - Service
    2. Other Items -
      • Letter of nomination
      • Up to three letters of recommendation
      • Three of the most relevant reprints sent electronically in PDF format or preferably a link to the three most relevant reprints. (Does not count as part of the 20-page limit

    Evaluation Criteria-

      1. Extent to which research focus is directly related to IPM (10)

    2. Overall Impact of Research Findings on IPM (select one, up to 25 points)
