The motion and comments regarding the 2005 Annual Meeting theme was given to Governing Board representative Shirpat Kamble to give to the Board President Ivie. 2005 Vice President-Elect Scott Hutchins defended President Ivie, indicating that there were many from other Sections that supported the theme. He said the title is meant to invigorate the younger demographics. He apologized for poor communication of the theme's broader goals. President Ivie does not intend to change title, but will add the subtitle, Entomologists impacting hunger, health, biodiversity, and the environment. The Governing Board supports total vision of theme and asks Sections to give the President flexibility to go forward. Susan Weller, 2005 Program Committee co-chair, said that the Program Committee would take all steps to minimize any negative impacts from the theme and would try to influence the media and put a positive spin on it. There was much discussion on this issue. Many voiced concerns and reservations over the title/theme. This issue can be brought up for a vote at the ESA final business meeting, although the results would not be binding to President Ivie.
