This NCB-ESA Legacy Contribution award recognizes contributions by one or more North Central Branch members that has resulted in a lasting (legacy) impact on their area of specialization, either through results of research discovery, practical implementation of research findings, or service contribution.

Eligibility
The nominee must be an NCB-ESA member. A team of nominees may be nominated for this award and must contain members (at least 2) of NCB-ESA. The nominee or team of nominees must have made one or more contributions during the previous 40 years that has had and will continue to have a lasting impact (legacy) on their area of specialization. The contribution(s) need to be based on results of research discovery, practical application/implementation of research findings (not necessarily their own research), or demonstrated service (including outreach or public engagement) to the area of specialty.
Entomology areas of specialty include: Agriculture, Biology/Ecology, Horticulture, Medical/Urban
Nomination Requirements
Nomination packages for this award must include:
- Primary Items:
- A maximum one-page description of the nominee(s) legacy contribution(s) to their area of specialty and the reasons the contribution(s) have had and will continue to have a legacy impact on the specialized area of entomology.
- A minimum of 2 public (3rd party) acknowledgements of the nominee’s or team’s contribution(s). Examples could be other awards received for the same contribution(s) or media evidence (news articles) recognizing the contribution(s).
- A minimum of 2 letters of recommendation (from individuals or stakeholder organizations) that evaluate and appraise the nominee’s or team’s contribution(s).
- CV-Related Items (Max of 10 pages) – Nominator(s) must provide the CV sections (from the nominee(s)) associated with the area in which the nomination is based. For example, if the nomination is based on legacy research, provide Background Information and the Research Sections from the nominee(s) CV. If the nomination is based on legacy service, provide the Background Information section and the Service Sections from the nominee(s) CV. Evaluation Criteria
Nominees will be judged using the following criteria for a total of 100 points:
- Legacy Contribution(s) (80 points total)
- Historical and/or Current Impact (25)
- Potential for Future Impact (25)
- Public Acknowledgement of Impact (15)
- Letters of recommendation by colleagues, peers, constituents (15)
- Supporting Information (20 points total)
- CV documentation supporting the nominee(s) contribution(s) (20)
- Documentation examples could include supporting research publications, leadership and involvement in ESA and related professional societies, awards and honors related to the contribution(s), community, state, national, or international service supporting the contribution(s)
- CV documentation supporting the nominee(s) contribution(s) (20)
Submission Requirements
All nomination packages must be submitted electronically according to the following specifications (paper nominations will not be accepted):
- The entire nomination package must not exceed 20 pages total. This includes letters of nomination or recommendation and CV-related materials from the nominee or team of nominees.
- Letters of nomination and recommendation must be included in the electronic package. Printed letters sent in lieu of electronic versions will not be accepted.
- Only the following file formats will be accepted: PDF (Adobe Portable Document Format), RTF (Rich Text Format), TIF graphic files, or JPG graphic files. Files created on either PC or MAC platforms will be accepted. Please make sure scanned images can be clearly read on a computer screen
- Font size for text may not be smaller than 11 point
- The maximum upload size is 2 MB per file
Renomination
Renominations are encouraged. Any candidate(s) nominated, but not selected, for the award at the Branch level, may be renominated for the Branch award up to two times within the two-year period (following the eligibility criteria) after his/her initial submission. A candidate(s) is not eligible to receive this award twice. A renomination package must be made as a new submission, but may contain old or updated material at the nominator's discretion.
Notification
The awards administrator will notify all candidates and their nominators with the results of their nomination. Award recipients will be asked to supply a short bio and picture for the program booklet.
Deadline
Nomination packages must be submitted online via the award submission site by December 13th annually at 11:59 EST. This deadline refers to receipt by the awards administrator of a complete package in a readable format.
