Pacific Branch Meeting Call for Symposia

Now is the time to start your daydreams of San Diego! Our Program Chairs Todd Murray, Alix Whitener, and Peter McGhee are ready and waiting to hear your thoughts on symposia for the 2019 Pacific Branch ESA meeting that will be from March 31-April 3, 2019 in San Diego, California at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay Spa and Marina. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Stories of Our Science.” As we continue our mission of communicating science, I strongly encourage symposia that highlight communicating science with other scientists as well as communicating to others who use our science. In addition, please consider submitting symposia themed on the following topics, as these generated a lot of interest in 2018:

  • Advances in molecular tools
  • Agricultural trade barriers
  • Climate change
  • Invasive species
  • Marijuana cultivation and pests
  • Pollination services and management
  • Science communication
  • Stories of founders of entomological sub-fields from the Pacific Branch

We hope to attract a broad range of topics in 2019, so do not hesitate to be creative when considering topics. All symposium proposals should be submitted online by November 19, 2018. Submissions should include the following:

  • Session title
  • Summary Statement of the Goal or Concept, and Objectives
  • Brief Symposium Description (50 words or less, required)
  • List of several speakers you plan to invite to participate in your symposium
  • Comments for Program Organizers (not required)
  • Total time required: 2 or 4 hours
  • Organizer name(s) and contact information

If you would like to discuss a symposium idea prior to submitting a proposal, please contact the Program Co-Chairs: Todd Murray, Alix Whitener and Peter McGhee

We look forward to hearing from you!
